On June 14, Thaketa Power Station, one of Myanmar’s 900 MW LNG power generation projects invested, constructed and operated by CNTIC VPower Group Holdings Limited (CNTIC VPower), a 50/50 joint venture of CNTIC and its strategic partner VPower Group, was connected to grid for power generation. The power station, located in Yangon, Myanmar, is Myanmar’s first power generation project using imported LNG as fuel.

On June 10, the project company affiliated to the joint venture signed a power purchase agreement on the Thaketa Project with Myanmar Electric Power Company. The power station would be put into operation in stages from June 14. The electricity will be transmitted to all parts of Myanmar through the State Grid to meet the increasing demand for electricity.

Myanmar’s 900 MW LNG power generation project includes the 150MW power plant in Kyaukpyu, Rakhine State; the 350MW plant in Thanlyin, Yangon; and the 400MW plant in Thaketa. It is CNTIC’s first overseas investment & construction project to be operated locally.
